The guardian of the 100th anniversary of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) is the Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist.

Bergqvist will give a speech at OLL's 100th Anniversary Celebration on April 13. She will also present the physical activity and sports badges of merit awarded by the Ministry of Education and Culture to those distinguished in student sports.

"Congratulations to the Student Sports Federation on its 100th anniversary! Thank you for highlighting the importance of exercise for the well-being of students for already 100 years. With your long-term influence work in favor of opportunities for physical activity, you have also achieved a strong social position as an advocate for the well-being of students. As Minister of Sports, it is a great honor for me to act as the patron of your anniversary," says Minister Bergqvist.

Founded in 1924, OLL was originally called Suomen Akateeminen Urheiluliitto (SAUL). This year, the union celebrates the first century of the organized student movement in Finland.

"We're delighted to have the country's first sports minister as the guardian of the jubilee year. Promoting movement has entered the social debate and political decision-making in a completely new way. A concrete example of this is the funding of one million euros aimed at higher education institutions, whithin the Suomi liikkeelle program, which aims to implant a culture supportive of physical activity. This, in turn, strengthens the students' ability to study and work'', OLL's president Mio Kortelainen emphasizes.

The jubilee year is reflected in the events of the union and member organizations. In addition, OLL will also publish a 100-year history in the fall, which is being prepared at the Center for Finnish Sports Culture TAHTO (formerly the Sports Museum).
