Published:Korkeakouluopiskelijoiden hyvinvointi on viime vuosina kriisiytynyt, minkä vuoksi korkeakoulujen liikunnan rahoitukseen tulisi panostaa enemmän, kirjoittaa Opiskelijoiden Liikuntaliiton puheenjohtaja Emilia Junnila. Suurempien kriisien ja liikkumattomuuden kustannusten ehkäisemiseksi tulee panostukset tehdä nyt.

Published:Opiskelijoiden Liikuntaliiton (OLL) Liikuttavan arvokas -eduskuntavaalikampanja avataan yhteisellä tempauksella 22. helmikuuta klo 14, jolloin opiskelu- ja työpäivää tauotetaan 54 minuutin ajan liikkumisen merkeissä. Helsingin Kansalaistorilla päästään sekä liikkumaan yhdessä että seuraamaan päättäjiä ja korkeakoululiikuntaa edustavien joukkueiden välistä kisailua.

OLL’s joint event on the 22 of February will bring student sports into the election debate
Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation OLL's campaign Liikuttavan arvokas is all about highlighting the importance of student sports in the parliamentary election. The campaign will be launched with a joint national event on the 22 of February 2023. On the same date, OLL is also organising a public event open for all at Kansalaistori in Helsinki in collaboration with UniSport.

Promoting equality is part of all operations at OLL
Published:The promotion of equality is present in all areas of our operations. OLL’s operations are guided by an extensive equality plan, which was updated this year. The updated plan was approved at the General Assembly held on 2–3 November in Vuokatti. The plan opens up the concepts of equality and OLL's actions in promoting equality. In addition, the plan highlights OLL's role a feminist and anti-racist organisation.

Published:The number of medals won by Finland in the 2022 Student European Championships increased further – Joel Naukkarinen took gold in rowing in the Student European Championships held in Istanbul on 7–9 September 2022. Thanks to Naukkarinen’s victory, Finland brought a total of three medals home from the Student European Championships.

A record number of medals and many happy athletes at the EUG
Published:During the last two weeks of July, the Polish city of Lodz was filled with university athletes. The European Universities Games saw nearly 6,000 athletes compete in twenty different sports. Finnish universities were represented by a team of 62 athletes in eight different sports.

However, not all higher education students get to start their autumn studies on the campus. Due to COVID-19, different areas in Finland follow different restrictions, which also poses challenges in organising university sports.

Physical activity fixes the corona-induced wellbeing deficiency
Published:Distance learning, forced by corona constraints, easily exposes the student to difficulties in concentration, body aches and loneliness. Even before the corona, students sat for nearly 11 hours a day. In light of these facts, higher education sports are a necessary pillar of student and staff well-being now in the final stages of the pandemic as well as when studies move back to campuses.

Markus Halonen: Spreading information is an important part of promoting physical activity
Published:Making higher education culture more physically active is a complex goal to achieve, and in order to reach it, we should approach the target group from many different angles. It is, of course, important to remind people about the benefits of exercise and the disadvantages of physical inactivity, but we also need more detailed information when we want to transfer new learning into practice in increasing physical activity. In August 2020, the project Tikissä työelämään organised a series of three webinars to examine both the benefits of physical activity and also possible disadvantages from the point of view of e.g. brain health and the new physical activity recommendations.

Liisa Reinola: University students – an easily forgotten group of users
Published:Children and young people’s physical exercise is often discussed, and equal opportunities for them to be active: how certain sports are expensive, but how physical exercise is important for personal development, social relationships and even health. Once this case is somehow fixed, the discussion jumps ahead many decades and focuses on exercise opportunities for the elderly. It is a well-known fact that physical exercise does play a key role in supporting their health and ability to function. So, the opportunity for safe gym training, jogging paths close to home, and guided sports groups for seniors by the city sports services must be provided.
