OLL Student Series Invites University Students to Join the Step Weeks

The popular Step Weeks (Askelviikot) will be held this year from September 8th to 21st. In addition to the general category and the 65+ category, we are launching a new OLL Student Series specifically for university students! The series is organized in collaboration with the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL).

“Students sit for an average of over 10.5 hours a day. This significantly harms their health. Adding movement and steps to the day helps maintain study ability and alertness,” says Akseli Haanpää, Chair of the Finnish Student Sports Federation.

“It’s fantastic to have OLL as an even stronger event partner! This year, participating in Step Weeks is easier than ever with the YuMuuv app, and we’re excited to offer this service to a broader group of participants,” says Janne Suur-Hamari, Event and Administration Coordinator at TUL.

Breaking Up Sitting Time Is Crucial for University Students

The student series of Step Weeks encourages university students to increase their daily step count and everyday activity alongside their studies—for example, during commutes to lectures or hobbies, shopping trips, or other daily errands. All university students can register, and participation is possible either individually or in teams of 2–4 people.

“You can easily increase your daily step count even during study days. I encourage you to, for example, get off one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way! Just adding 10 minutes of movement on the way to and from university adds a nice amount of steps to your day,” encourages Nette Rimpioja, Vice Chair of OLL.

Participating in Step Weeks is easier than ever this year. Instead of manually recording and counting steps, you can now track your progress and your team’s results in real time using the free YuMuuv app. There’s no need to report your steps separately at the end of the challenge, as the data is automatically saved in the system.

“We want to challenge all students to join the campaign! This is a great opportunity to kick off the new academic year with a fun competition while taking care of your well-being,” says Janne Suur-Hamari.

So gather your team—perhaps from your student organization or among your study friends—and sign up for Step Weeks! The most active walker in the student series will win a gift card to GreenStar Hotels, and the winning team in the student category will receive product packages from OLL.

How to participate in Step Weeks

Download the YuMuuv app from your app store or use it in your browser at app.yumuuv.com. When registering, you’ll need TUL’s registration code: LSI-282. Please note that the name you enter in your profile will be visible to other challenge participants. You may use a nickname if you prefer.

If you’re participating as a team, one member should create the team using the “Create new team” button. Other members can then join the team from the “Team” submenu during registration.
