The 40th SELL Student Games took place in Vierumäki 16–18 May.

Finland returned as SELL Games organiser after a nine-year break. In Vierumäki, arrangements for the Games were carried out by the Sport Institute of Finland, the Finnish Student Sports Federation, Vierumäki Sports Oy and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. This was the first time the Games took place in Vierumäki, and participants praised the excellent competition areas and other services.

Approximately 500 students from six different countries and 20 universities took part. In addition to the SELL countries, Germany and Denmark were also represented. Championships took place in 12 sports.

A tight race in sprinting.

The event ran smoothly thanks to the effort of Secretary General Oona Aronen and competition director Kevin Jiang, as well as 70 volunteers, mainly students from Haaga-Helia. As well as sporting achievements, the SELL Games also saw students collecting hundreds of study credits. The Games were perfect for students in subjects such as event production, communications and various sports.

Student games are not just about competing and studies – having fun is also important. At the end of the first day of competing, the participants got to enjoy a sauna and a dip in a lake. On Saturday night, the SELL countries supported each other at a joint Eurovision watch party. This year SELL’s Eurovision winner was Estonia, congratulations!

Medals to 11 Finnish universities

The most valuable medal haul went to Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania, whose athletes took thirteen gold medals, four silver and one bronze. It was, however, the students of both Lithuanian Sports University and Vilnius University

who took away the largest number of medals (20). The medal table is at the end of the release.

Among the Finnish universities, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences reached the highest place on the medal table, coming 10th.
