Aalto University is the fourth university and the 11th institution of higher education to join the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL).

OLL chair Martta Sopanen says she looks forward to working with Aalto University:

“I’m very happy to welcome Aalto as a member of the Finnish Student Sports Federation. Institutes of higher education are a core part of the everyday lives and communities of students, and they also play an important role in improving wellbeing and an athletic lifestyle.”

Sopanen says that having another institute of higher education join the Federation strengthens the culture of fitness within its various member organizations. AYY, Aalto University Student Union, is already a long-standing member of OLL.

“We are delighted to join the Finnish Student Sports Federation and to partner with an organization whose expertise will help us further improve student wellbeing on an everyday level. We want to work together with OLL to build operating models and a culture that combines sports, community, and equal opportunity for all students,” says Petri Suomala, Vice President for Education at Aalto University.

"The partnership with OLL will help us take steps toward our goal of a thriving, active, and accessible everyday life on our campuses."

Previously, only student unions were able to join OLL as regular members. In early 2025, OLL implemented a reform that allowed membership for entire institutions of higher education. In total, OLL’s membership now includes 18 student organizations and 11 institutions of higher education.
