The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) gained two new university members at the beginning of March.

OLL President Martta Sopanen warmly welcomes Humak University of Applied Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland as members of the Federation.

“The new members strengthen the national work we are doing together to improve students’ access to exercise and wellbeing. Our goal is to have all university communities as members, and it is important for the development of our membership services that we have the opportunity to work with different types of universities,” Sopanen says.

The universities emphasise the importance of student wellbeing, both for the student and for the university.

“Exercise is a concrete way to support students’ wellbeing, which is at the heart of what we do. Studying at Humak is community and people-oriented, and we want to develop services that support physical activity together with OLL. We believe that a healthy student is also an active student – both in their studies and in society at large,” says Päivi Marjanen, Director of Education at Humak.

“The University of Eastern Finland’s membership in the Finnish Student Sports Federation supports our efforts to support student wellbeing. Through membership, we want to support a physically active lifestyle for students, as this is important for their wellbeing. Wellbeing also supports learning and progress in studies, which is why it is so important for both students and the university,” says Laura Hirsto, Vice Rector at the University of Eastern Finland.

Universities have been able to join OLL as full members alongside student unions since the beginning of 2025. The membership of OLL now includes 18 student organisations and as many as nine universities.
